Top 25 Albums of 2017

2017 sucked as a year, but it blessed us with phenomenal projects and albums from both familiar and new artists. It provided us with works from perennial powerhouses and emerging young artists. After much vybing and deliberation, I compiled the best albums of 2017 in my opinion into a single list. Before we jump into the list, here’s a few honorable mentions.

A fresh experimental rap album that features amazing lyricism and off the wall production, reminding the world that rap is more than just trap.

Anna of the North – Lovers

An exceptional display of dream pop at its finest.

Calvin Harris – Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1

EDM giant recruits superstar features for his album full of vybes.

BROCKHAMPTON – SATURATION

One of three phenomenal projects that the emerging collective blessed the masses with this year.

Dua Lipa – Dua Lipa

A stellar release from the pop savior hailing from the UK.

25. Northlane – Mesmer

A polished album that successfully displays the maturity and evolution of a metalcore band.

24. Kehlani – SweetSexySavage

A vybey R&B album that showcases the young talent’s capacity to deliver both slow jams and anthems.

23. SZA – Ctrl

An outstanding R&B album that rightfully catapulted SZA into stardom.

22. Tove Lo – Blue Lips

A trip of an electropop album that went above and beyond all expectations.

21. blackbear – cybersex

One of two projects this year by the alternative R&B god that flaunts his ability to accrue famous features and his inability to drop a poor track.

20. Sworn In – All Smiles

A deliciously dreary and raw album from an underrated nu metalcore outfit.

19. Mura Masa – Mura Masa 

A nonchalantly phenomenal album from EDM’s brightest that ultimately pushes the genre forward.

18. Paramore – After Laughter

A delicate album from alternative giants that both fuses 80s pop with alternative rock while adeptly disguising depressing songs under the veil of happy, poppy anthems.

17. Halsey – hopeless fountain kingdom

An exceptional follow up to the alternative pop queen’s unrivaled debut album.

16. blackbear – digital druglord

An incredible alternative R&B album that should get his name in everybody’s mouth.

15. Volumes – Different Animals

An evolutionary album from the djent outfit that shows immense growth and progression without sacrificing heaviness.

Top vybes: Waves Control, Pullin Shades, Left For Dead

14. Kendrick Lamar – DAMN.

A highly successful album that served as a reminder to the world that Kendrick is the G.O.A.T.

13. Tyler, The Creator – Flower Boy

A glorious album from the notably raw new school rapper that shows that he has more classics in his bag.

A phenomenal sophomore album from the progressive metalcore band that hits hard and shows no flaws.

11. Charli XCX – Pop 2

A delicious pop mixtape with candy sweet features from new faces that ultimately transports you to a new dimension.

10. BROCKHAMPTON – SATURATION II

The second installation of the trilogy that approaches rap in a revolutionary way and bumps ridiculously in the whip.

9. Jaden Smith – SYRE

A masterpiece.

8. Veil of Maya – False Idol

A brutal album from metalcore titans that displays the continued growth of the band and there knack for djenty riffs and breakdowns.

7. Lorde – Melodrama

The perfect pop album from pop’s most important and talented artist.

6. Billie Eilish – don’t smile at me

Yeah, it’s a nine song EP, but it is an impeccable alternative pop project from the girl who WILL own 2018.

5. Terror Jr. – Bop City 2

An enchanting and essential pop release by the quickly emerging trio that will forever bless our ears with music.

4. Cashmere Cat – 9

A life-changing album that ignores genres, thus giving listener’s a revitalizing experience.

3. Lil Uzi Vert – Luv Is Rage 2

A banger-filled masterpiece that ought to silence anyone that claims Uzi is just like the rest of the other rappers out there.

2. Pvris – All We Know Of Heaven, All We Need Of Hell

A dark, melancholic album from alt-rock outfit that hits the feels on all cylinders.

The last flawless installment to the SATURATION trilogy and last (and most important) piece of evidence as to why they are the “best boy band since One Direction”.
